Telegram Photos Cut Off? Check Smart Image Crop

If a forwarded Telegram poster arrives with its date, footer or QR code cut off, first open the destination image—not just its chat thumbnail—and compare it with the source. If the opened image really is missing an edge, inspect Smart Image Crop on that one task: fixed pixel values can remove too much from smaller photos, and Preserve Aspect Ratio can introduce additional cropping. RedFox’s Smart Image Crop documentation names both causes. A less aggressive crop is useful only if the information readers need survives.
This guide is for an existing RedFox Auto Forward Telegram route that already delivers photos but trims important details. It is not a missing-photo or caption-filter guide. You will compare two source sizes, change one crop control at a time on a private task, and decide whether the source layout is suitable for automatic cropping at all.
Identity: use @AutoForwardNew_Bot. The previous @Auto_Forward_Messages_Bot has moved to this current handle. RedFox develops the product; Auto-Bot.io publishes this editorial guide and does not operate the bot. Sources were checked on October 28, 2026. The example and checks below are a proposed reader exercise, not an executed forwarding test. The featured artwork is a concept illustration, not product UI or a recovered image.
1. Confirm that pixels are missing, not merely hidden in a thumbnail
Open the source photo and the forwarded photo individually. Look at the same bottom line, corner or border in both. If the complete detail is visible when opened but not in the chat tile, changing a forwarding crop is the wrong first fix. Record which client and view show the problem.
There is a useful counterexample in Telegram Desktop issue #30068: a user reports a distorted video preview within an album, with different presentation on mobile. That is a report about Telegram Desktop and album video layout, not proof of a RedFox photo-cropping defect. It is a reason to distinguish the delivered image from its presentation before changing settings.
- The opened destination photo lacks an edge: continue with the task’s crop configuration.
- The entire photo is absent or its caption is missing: use the separate photo and caption diagnostic; cropping and message exclusion are different questions.
- The edge exists but text is blurry: compare the source quality and delivered photo. This guide does not establish why resolution changed, and reducing crop values cannot reconstruct unreadable source text.
2. Record the crop on one task before changing it
In the task’s Smart Image Crop settings, record Enable Image Crop, Pixels or Percent mode, all four edge values and Preserve Aspect Ratio. Keep the original source photo and an example of the unwanted output. RedFox documents the addon as separately unlocked with credits and configured per task; check that it is active for the account you are inspecting. Basic forwarding access is not a promise that this addon is included.
Prefer the Web app, iOS app or Android app for fuller management than the limited Telegram-bot entry point. Active tasks run in RedFox’s cloud; the runtime FAQ says your own internet connection does not have to stay on. Closing the management screen is not a way to disable cropping.
Do the following checks on a source and private destination you control, with no audience attached. Record the task’s other transformations and the sender, caption, message type and content rules that admit your specimens. Keep those conditions comparable between runs. Do not disable every filter on the live feed, reconnect the account or copy source history just to investigate a cut edge.
3. Check whether a fixed pixel crop became too large
Pixels mode removes the same number of pixels regardless of photo size. That makes a previously reasonable rule risky when a source starts sending smaller versions of its poster.
For an arithmetic example—not an observed product result—take two versions of the same layout: 1,200 × 1,600 and 600 × 800 pixels. A 100-pixel bottom crop removes 6.25% of the taller version’s height but 12.5% of the smaller version’s height. The remaining heights are 1,500 and 700 pixels. A footer safely above the cut in one version can fall inside it in the other.
RedFox recommends Pixels for consistent image sizes and Percent for proportional cropping across varying sizes. But Percent is not content-aware protection: if one poster puts the date at the bottom and another puts it at the top, the same percentage can still remove something essential. Use proportional values only when the layout and safe border are genuinely comparable. Do not copy a suggested 5% or 10% from a guide without checking your own poster.
4. Check Preserve Aspect Ratio separately
The documentation says Preserve Aspect Ratio may introduce additional automatic cropping to keep the original width-to-height ratio. This can explain why the result loses more than the edge values appear to request. It is a specific setting to investigate, not a guarantee that it caused your case.
- On the private task, reproduce the unwanted crop with the recorded settings and fresh eligible poster specimens. If you cannot reproduce it, retain the evidence and do not infer a cause.
- If Preserve Aspect Ratio is on, turn only that option off, save and send comparable fresh copies. Keep the four edge values and mode unchanged.
- Open the delivered photos. Compare the missing detail and all four edges, not only the overall shape. If the detail returns and the intended border cleanup still works, this is evidence for that setting on this private task.
- If the change does not help, restore it before testing a smaller edge value. Do not stack a mode change, a new crop amount and another transformation into one unexplained result.
Turning aspect preservation off does not itself undo the explicit crop. If the date is inside the configured bottom strip, that strip still needs to be reduced or cropping disabled. The goal here is readable content, not forcing every poster into the same shape.
5. Use a two-size pair and a no-crop control
Make harmless posters you own with a title, date and small reference marks near each edge. Use the two sizes above, keeping the same relative layout and caption. If QR codes are part of your real workflow, use a harmless code you control and know the destination of; never scan an unknown code just because it appears in a test.
- A — larger photo: exposes whether the current crop suits the original template.
- B — smaller photo: exposes whether a fixed pixel amount cuts deeper into the same layout.
- C — no-crop control: with Enable Image Crop off on the private task, send fresh copies of A and B. RedFox says this switch preserves your crop values. Compare the delivered edges against the source.
Use ordinary photo messages for A and B. The addon documentation explicitly excludes images sent as documents, plus videos, GIFs and stickers. Telegram also documents Send as File as a separate way to send full-resolution media. A document arriving unchanged does not prove that a photo crop was repaired.
Establish the current-settings result, then the no-crop control, then return to the recorded settings and test one proposed adjustment. Keep the same source, sender, target, caption and applicable rule matches. Send fresh source posts after every save: the documentation says settings affect future images, not previously forwarded ones. Leave unrelated image transformations unchanged and record them; if the control is still missing an edge, stop attributing the loss to Smart Image Crop alone.
RedFox’s Preview uses a standard test image and shows removed areas in red. It is useful for checking the configured boundary, but a clean preview is not acceptance of your real event poster. Open actual forwarded specimens before moving to the live task.
6. Accept the content, not just the new dimensions
For every specimen, compare the title, complete date and time, location, footer, source credit and any required notice. Keep the necessary context even if removing it would make the picture look cleaner. Crop only material you are authorized to alter; do not remove attribution or disclosures to misrepresent ownership.
For a QR poster, preserve both the symbol and the clear area around it. DENSO WAVE’s QR code guidance specifies a four-module quiet zone on every side. Keeping the black squares while cutting their surrounding margin is not enough. Compare the code visually, then check that the delivered harmless specimen scans to the same expected destination. This is a reader-run functional check, not a claim that this article’s concept art contains a working QR code.
- Smaller image fails but larger image passes: revisit fixed pixel amounts; try a smaller amount or proportional mode only if the same safe border exists in both. Test that single change.
- Ratio-off passes, with intended cleanup retained: keep the evidence and verify that choice on the intended live task before relying on it.
- No safe crop fits all the layouts: keep cropping off for those posters or use separately configured tasks for predictable source layouts. Do not keep shrinking the important content to satisfy a visual template.
- No-crop control still loses the edge: keep the configuration record, source and target images, client/view and times for support. Check other configured transformations and presentation; the control has not established a Smart Image Crop cause.
Before rollout, compare the live task with the private configuration and its eligibility rules. Apply only the adjustment that explained the result, inspect one approved fresh photo and one smaller-layout specimen there, and keep the original values for rollback. A private task’s success is not proof of the live route. For general feature setup, use the existing Smart Image Crop guide rather than rebuilding the forwarding route.
FAQ
Will a smaller crop restore photos already sent?
No. RedFox says existing forwarded photos are not reprocessed and cannot be uncropped. A saved change protects future images. Handle an already published damaged notice as a separate editorial correction using the original; do not assume the setting will repair it.
Is Percent mode always safer than Pixels?
No. It keeps the removal proportional to image size, not to the location of important content. Different layouts still need their own review, and some are better left uncropped.
Why did Preview look fine?
The documented preview uses a standard sample, not a guarantee about the actual next source photo. Check fresh real-layout specimens, including the smaller one, at the private destination.
Keep the notice complete before making it uniform
Open the RedFox Auto Forward Telegram overview, then inspect Smart Image Crop on one private task in your preferred Web or mobile app. Your useful result is a recorded crop, a comparable large/small pair and a confirmed safe adjustment—or a clear decision to leave that source uncropped. Dates, instructions and readable codes matter more than a perfectly uniform feed.
