Telegram Short Links: Keep the Original, Show the Destination

To show where a shortened Telegram link leads without losing the original address, use Final Redirect Link in Append Mode. RedFox Auto Forward Telegram (@AutoForwardNew_Bot) documents this add-on for resolving redirected URLs in forwarded text and captions. Append Mode keeps the original link and adds the resolved destination; Replace Mode substitutes the destination for the original.
This guide is for a community editor whose Telegram forwarding route already works, but whose resource announcements contain short links that are hard to assess at a glance. The goal is a more informative review copy: original address plus resolved destination, with exceptions checked separately. A resolved URL is not a safety certificate or permission to publish.
RedFox is the team behind Auto Forward Telegram. The previous bot, @Auto_Forward_Messages_Bot, has moved to @AutoForwardNew_Bot; use the current linked handle, not a similar display name. Auto-Bot.io is an editorial publisher and does not develop or operate the bot.
Choose visibility, not automatic approval
Imagine an editor collecting workshop resources from authorized Telegram sources into a private review chat. A post says “Read the preparation guide,” but its short URL hides the destination domain. The editor wants to keep the source address for reference while seeing which site the link resolves to.
That is different from deleting links, hiding website preview cards or creating affiliate links. The Final Redirect Link guide describes following redirects and either replacing or appending the final URL. For this review-feed case, start with Append Mode.
- Append Mode: The original link plus its resolved destination. Useful when the editor needs both addresses.
- Replace Mode: The resolved destination instead of the original short link. Choose it only when discarding that original address is intentional.
- No resolution change: Keep the existing link workflow while you establish access, permissions or a suitable test case.
The private review chat is your editorial arrangement, not a claim that this add-on provides an approval queue. Deciding whether a resource is appropriate for subscribers remains a separate step. Likewise, the documentation’s protections against local, private and reserved-network targets do not establish that every public destination is harmless.
Prepare one controlled task and check access
Use a source and destination you control, or have permission to use. If the basic route is not working, follow the Telegram forwarding setup guide first. Do not reconnect accounts or rebuild a working route merely to investigate a short URL.
- Identify the exact task. Record its source, review destination and current link-related settings. Keep a baseline message showing how the original link arrives before the change.
- Check Final Redirect Link access. The general add-on guide documents Menu → My Addons, including active and expired access. Review the displayed price and duration before any purchase; a working forwarding subscription does not by itself establish access to this add-on.
- Review the feature settings for this task. Choose Append Mode for the original-plus-destination result. Use the current feature guide alongside your interface rather than substituting a general Replace rule.
- Keep unrelated behavior stable. Do not simultaneously change attribution, source selection, message filters or other transformations. Reopen the task’s settings and confirm the saved mode before testing.
Keep the first test away from a subscriber audience. If your existing production policy removes outbound links, do not disable that policy just to make this example work; use a separately authorized test route.
Limit which links are resolved
Final Redirect Link documents Include domains and Exclude domains per forwarding task. Include domains limits resolution to specified domains; Exclude domains skips selected domains. Start with one known shortener used by your permitted source material, rather than applying a broad policy to every URL.
These lists control resolution scope, not approval of the final website. Including a shortener does not mean that all destinations behind it are approved. Excluding a domain from resolution is also not the same as blocking its messages or removing its links.
Keep the lists unambiguous during the first check. The guide does not define wildcard syntax, subdomain matching or precedence when the same domain appears in both lists. Use the documented domain form and verify a representative link; do not build a complex rule around guessed matching behavior.
The feature also lets you limit how many links are resolved per message. Its example resolves the first three and skips the rest. Choose a cap suited to your feed, then include an over-cap message in your verification. A delivered post with several URLs may contain a mixture of resolved and unprocessed links.
Leave campaign, affiliate, sign-in and private invitation URLs out of the initial experiment. Replacing a redirecting URL changes the address readers use; reaching the same page does not prove that attribution or other link-specific behavior is preserved. For rules about cloned inline buttons, use the separate button URL governance guide. This tutorial covers the text and captions documented for Final Redirect Link, not button processing.
Verify the original and destination as a pair
The following is a proposed reader-run check, not a test executed by Auto-Bot.io. Choose a harmless redirect you own or are authorized to test, with a destination you already know. Avoid suspicious links gathered from public threads and never use a login or payment URL as a specimen.
1. Start with one plain-text link
Send a fresh, clearly marked source post into the controlled route. Inspect the destination message itself: the original short URL should still be present, and the resolved destination should be added. Confirm that the surrounding announcement remains understandable.
Compare the addresses, not just a preview title or friendly hyperlink label. For your own harmless sample, inspect the actual link targets and confirm that the appended destination matches the known page. If several URLs appear, make sure a reader can tell which destination belongs to which original.
For an illustrative note, record “original: owned short link A; resolved: owned guide page A.” Those labels describe the expected relationship; they are not a product output template or exact formatting promise.
2. Challenge the scope and cap
Next, use a permitted link from a domain outside your include list. Record what appears and whether it was resolved. That control tests your resolution policy; it is not a reason to expect the entire post to disappear.
Then test the configured maximum. If you use the documented three-link example, prepare a message with four distinct, harmless redirecting URLs from the included domain. Record the result for each URL separately. Do not label the whole message “fully resolved” because the first destination is visible.
3. Check captions and exceptions
If your real feed uses captioned media, repeat the single-link check in an actual caption. The feature guide lists message and media captions as supported locations, but your acceptance check should still inspect the delivered caption, URL pairing and media together.
The guide says forwarding continues when resolution times out, fails or encounters an unavailable website. That is useful continuity, but it means message delivered is not equivalent to every link resolved. The guide does not specify every fallback display. Record the actual output instead of assuming an unresolved link will carry a warning or be removed.
If you have an authorized, harmless failure specimen, include it in the private check. Otherwise, retain failure behavior as an untested boundary. Never deliberately open an unknown destination just to prove that the resolver tried it.
Read the result before changing more settings
- Original URL gone: inspect Append versus Replace Mode and any other URL-changing settings on the actual task.
- Original present, destination absent: check add-on access, domain scope, link position relative to the cap and whether resolution could complete. Do not assume one missing expansion proves the whole route failed.
- Only some links expanded: compare each link with the saved scope and cap. A per-message limit is a coverage boundary, not a random formatting defect.
- No message arrives: investigate the basic route and its filters before treating this as a link-resolution-only problem.
- Unexpected destination appears: hold that item from further distribution and verify it with the source owner. Successful expansion does not make the destination appropriate.
Keep a small support record if the saved configuration does not explain the output: task label, mode, domain lists, cap, a sanitized source specimen, destination result and timestamps. Remove tokens and private URLs. Change one relevant setting at a time rather than repeatedly forwarding real announcements.
Verification checklist
- The intended source and review destination are confirmed.
- Current add-on access and saved Append Mode are checked.
- The original address and correct resolved destination are both visible for the known sample.
- Domain-scope and over-cap cases are recorded separately.
- Captioned media is checked if the feed needs it.
- Unresolved links are treated as exceptions, not approved resources.
Frequently asked questions
Does expansion prove a link is safe?
No. It reveals a resolved destination. It is not a complete redirect-chain audit, malware verdict or guarantee about a later visit. Keep your editorial checks separate.
Is Include domains a publishing allowlist?
No. The documented purpose is to choose which links are resolved. Do not use it as evidence that the final website or the entire message has passed a publication policy.
Will changing the mode repair old copies?
Do not assume that it will. Verify fresh messages after saving the change, and handle any already-published corrections separately rather than replaying source history.
Make the next review copy more informative
Open the RedFox Auto Forward Telegram product overview, check Final Redirect Link access, and prepare one original-plus-destination sample. Prefer the Web App or official iOS or Android app for fuller management; choose the surface that suits you. The Telegram bot remains an entrypoint.
Active tasks run in RedFox’s cloud. Its service FAQ says you do not need to keep your internet connection on, so closing the management screen is not a pause strategy. Keep the review destination controlled until you have checked the output.
