Illustration: a bot takes a visitor from a task invitation through Start to a useful reminder; conceptual, not a product screen.
Telegram bot promotion succeeds only when curiosity turns into a useful first action. A bot directory description can earn a visit, but a visitor who sees an unclear Start message has no reason to continue. TelegramBID includes bots alongside channels and groups, giving builders a Telegram-focused place to present the use case. This guide connects the listing promise to a bot’s first completed task.

Describe one job the bot can do now
“Powerful productivity bot” leaves the reader to guess. Imagine a bot that lets a user save an article URL and schedule a reading reminder: “Send a link, choose when to be reminded, then retrieve your saved reading list.” This is a hypothetical example. The wording makes the first action and the result intelligible before a visitor opens Telegram.
Build the listing around the same short journey: person → input → useful output. Say whether a user sends text, a link or a command; describe the first response accurately; omit capabilities that are only planned. If the first step requires authorization, payment or data sharing, explain that at the appropriate point instead of letting the visitor discover it after opening. Relevance and honesty will do more for a qualified start than generic superlatives.
Telegram’s bot feature documentation describes Start, Help, commands and menu buttons as interaction tools; it does not prescribe one universal bot UI. Choose the control that fits the actual task, then make the first response teach it. A concise welcome could say: “Send an article link to save it. Choose a reminder time next. Use /help if you need an example.” Only publish that example if the bot genuinely performs those steps.
Test the first-use path before increasing visibility
- Open the bot link as a new user and inspect its title, description and Start state.
- Run the exact action promised by the listing with a safe example input.
- Read every bot response: does it explain the next step without assuming developer knowledge?
- Check error handling for an invalid link or incomplete input; explain recovery plainly.
- Complete the first useful output and decide whether a new user could repeat it.
If you use a https://t.me/your_bot?start=source link, Telegram supports that deep-link format, but TelegramBID strips query parameters from outbound listing links. Do not rely on ?start= surviving a directory click for attribution or onboarding; test the plain bot link and its first Start state. The best promotional sentence should also serve as a test script for your onboarding.
Make discovery copy match the task
TelegramBID’s About page describes browsing by topic and language, comparing descriptions and opening destinations on Telegram. For a bot, that means the description should identify the problem solved, the first action and the person who benefits. For our imaginary reading bot, “Save an article link and choose a reminder inside Telegram” is a stronger promise than “the ultimate knowledge assistant.” Choose a category aligned with the actual task; inspect the live category options rather than guessing from this guide.
TelegramBID includes bots in its launch scope. Its Rules require a paid bid and first admin review before a new listing appears in Discover or sponsored rankings; organic order does not mean free submission. Use the live submission flow, confirm the bot destination and check the current quote and terms before paying.
Separate clicks, starts and completed actions
The funnel is not a single counter. First, someone sees a listing and clicks its outbound link. Next, they open or start a bot in Telegram. Finally, they complete the promised action. The TelegramBID Rules define public click totals as recorded outbound clicks, not unique people; they do not say that a click is a bot start or a successful task. Use your own bot event definitions and privacy-respecting observations to judge later steps if available.
If the listing draws clicks but the bot has few starts, inspect the link, displayed bot identity and first screen. If starts happen but the task does not complete, improve the welcome, the example input and the recovery path. If the first task completes yet nobody returns, look at whether the bot solves a recurring need.
Sponsored rankings on TelegramBID are competitive positions based on confirmed spend; they are separate from organic Discover and do not guarantee activation. A ready first-run experience makes the visibility opportunity worthwhile. Spend decisions should use the current website quote and policy, not an imagined cost-per-start.
The bot builder’s concise launch brief
Write down the audience, one problem, a one-line listing, the exact first action and the response that proves the task worked. Try that path on a fresh conversation. Then compare the listing text with the real bot behavior and revise whichever breaks the promise. Only after that, explore the current listing and sponsored options.
